|
|
We have decided to host another reunion here in Cornwall again in 2015. We have chosen Saturday, June 27 as the focal day of the event, but hope many will come early and stay late. We will plan to use the same format as we did in '13, serving all meals here, charging after the fact, having a pig roast on Saturday evening followed by parade and campfire. Please spread the word and let us know as soon as you can if you are planning to attend. Email us at pfreeland@comcast.net and post your intentions as a reply to this posting. Please plan on joining us. For you birders, DP Witter is planning on joining us again.
Most already know about the various things to do/see around here, but the weekend I picked has an extra event. The last Saturday of June is the annual Amish auction. It's held about 15 minutes from our house and is VERY interesting. Besides rubbing elbows with lots of Amish from babies to oldsters, there is a dazzling variety of things to bid on including quilts. We have bought several, most are about $400, you'd find the same type of things at the tourist spots for $1200. There are new and used tools,
Amish buggies, lots of nursery products and that's just a start. We usually go for breakfast, for about $7 it's an all you can eat thing with pancakes, mush (try it, you'll like it) and lots more.
More information as time goes by is below with the date I added the info:
1/3/15
Our location information:

About 15 minutes from us.
Four Seasons Motel - about two miles from us - cheap/simple www.quentinmotel.com - d717-272-8402
Days Inn - about 6 miles from us near the turnpike - email kathy.daysinn1@gmail.com or www.daysinn.com/lebanonvalley - 717-273-6771
Hampton Inn - across from the Days Inn - www.manheim.hamptoninn.com - 717-665-1591
Days Inn - five miles away - 273-6771
Check something like hotels.com for more choices. Hershey has LOTS of hotels and is about 25 mintues away.
It's a busy weekend as I said in my email, so it's wise to reserve a room sooner rather than missing out.
As before anyone can camp on our property.
2/20/15
Just to let y'all know, Comfort Inn will accept reservations on our reserved block until 3/15, and cancellations must be made two weeks or more before the reserved date.

The list of probables (definites are starred) :
Rich Richardson,
*Bob Nickels
Jim Schubauer
*Dave and Dana Clemens
*Pete Wood
*Pat and Vicki Freeland
*Cavi Steve, Karline and Elliot
*Don and Karen Witter
*Mike Freeland
Steve McDavitt
*Al Ingraham
*Tom and Luda Falcon
Chris Gill
*Rick and Helen Tjader
*Jeff and Leslie Fincun
Dave Clemens
Jeff and Debbie Grush

*Bob and Kate Vaughan
Hary Sloan
*Alan Neagle
*Doug, Cathy, Caity Wilkins
*Dave and Sherry Bentley
*Dharlie Lax and Michele Picard
*Bob and Sonia Schmitt
4/13/15
Cavi and Steve will doubtless have their two Danes here during the reunion and the older female is something of an Alpha dog with other females so let us know if you plan to bring dogs so we can try to accommodate.
Also, the Amish auction does not take out of state checks, so plan to use credit cards, cash or I can write a check and you can write me a check for the amount.
5/19/15
As before we plan to serve all meals from Thursday night through Monday morning. Unlike camp, it is not required that you eat all meals here but we need to know what meals you will be skipping. So, now that we are beginning planning in earnest, please let us know as soon as you have firmed up your plans the following information via email to pfreeland@comcast.net:
1. When you are arriving (what meal will be your first)
2. How many coming
3. When you are leaving (ast meal you plan to eat here)
4. Any meals you plan to skip.
There is breakfast and lunch at the Amish auction, so if you plan to go to that let us know that you'll be missing one or both breakfast and lunch that day. I usually just have the breakfast and leave before lunch but will be staying here that day, acting as host and cooking. So we will serve both breakfast and lunch here that day
As to money, we have seed money from Jerrey Hoyt, Tom Falcon and Dave Bentley so we don't need anything up front, and I will let you know by email what you owe after the event and after we have calculated costs.
Dave Ayars has volunteered to tell The Golden Arm at the post-pig campfire. Any other offerings will be welcome.
5/29/15
For those who were not at the last reunion, you might be interested in two honorary Wyanokers, Don Witter (I know him as DP but he prefers Don) and his wife Karen. They are long time family friends. Don is an avid birder, and will take anyone interested to our local wildlife sanctuary.
Please don't feel obliged to bring anything, we are planning the whole menu - that said, if you feel you want to contribute in kind, it might be a good idea to reply to all about what you're bringing so we don't get too much of one thing, like 2000 brownies or something.
I inadvertently left off a name in the list of people who have contributed seed money. Dan Mannis also sent a contribution though he is regrettably unable to attend, sorry Dan on two counts.
6/1/
At the risk of sounding tongue in cheek, for those going to the Amish auction, there is another event which I think could only happen around here, a couple of hundred big trucks drive a circular route around here, partially along the route to the auction. It's called Trucking for Christ. Um...yeah. There are no contributions or any money involved, but folks set up lawn chairs and watch the trucks go by. They wave and the trucks honk. All for Jesus.
More on the auction, it's easy to get to, about ten minutes from here, parking is easy but a bit time consuming because of the crowd, and you can spend as much or as little time there as you choose. If you are into quilts, you can get authentic Amish ones for about $400 as opposed to the same ones selling at the touristy places like Intercourse (a town close by whose border signs keep disappearing for some reason) where they cost upwards of $1200. If wives are interested and men are not, I suspect a carpool would work great.
6/3
I don't mean this to sound like a threat, but Vicki and I have pretty much decided that this will be our last reunion. It is a lot of work and we are not getting any younger. If anyone else wants to take over we'll help you as needed when the time comes for you to be host. So...if you're thinking that you will come to the next one, you will either be disappointed or be the host.
6/14
For those driving, it would be helpful if you could bring a couple of yard chairs - we have a bunch but not enough. They will be especially welcome
during the campfire assuming the weather gods let us have it at the fire site. _________________ Living with wife Vicki happily retired after we moved back to Cornwall, Pa.

So glad you and Vicki have been able and willing to do this again, it's such a heartwarming event! I'll be there-- to the extent that I can predict anything a year from now. I just changed jobs, bought an electric car, got a puppy, put up solar panels, landscaped the yard... so much in flux, I'm ready to get back to my roots.
Maybe I can even bring the family.
Looking forward to seeing everyone again,

WOW !! Another reunion. Nancy and I had a terrific time last year, and will be hoping to make the next one.
I sometimes have trouble remembering what I am supposed to do next month, let along next year, but have already noted it on the "to do list" for 2015 and we will try to be there if possible.

June is a time that may work for me. The late July/August dates in the past have always conflicted with our time in Maine.
I'll have to see if I can talk my brother in to coming. _________________ J-1 1970, Marc Liddle from Scotland

Karline and Elliot (Rosebud and Chipper) would love to have playmates during this event, so please consider bringing your progeny. There is always Hershey Park with a lot of roller coasters (I've lost count) and plenty of history around here. We'll keep them busy here, too, it'd be like a day at camp. _________________ Living with wife Vicki happily retired after we moved back to Cornwall, Pa. |

I am interested in coming. Please let me know the details, location, accommodations, etc.. It will be the first one I attended. I should be retired at that time and in good financial shape so it is looking good. It will be just myself.

Sherry and I look forward to attending. We plan to arrive Saturday morning, having spent Friday night in Ronks, PA, and have a reservation at the Days Inn Lebanon for Saturday night.
We look forward to seeing everyone, and PLEASE, forgive us both for probably not remembering names as well as we used to!!

Looking forward to the Reunion!
I plan to bring the "registers" (year by year listings campers and staff by tent groups) if anyone might be interested in looking up historical facts about tent mates, etc. I also have a lot of pictures taken over the years that I will bring and you may pick through and keep what you would like (if you can recognize yourself). _________________ C-1 49 J-7 52 S-3 55 J-10 58

First, let me say how much Nancy and I totally enjoyed the reunion from three years ago. It was really terrific.
But alas----- I don't think we can make it this year. We are in the process of preparing to move from Mobile to North Georgia, to be closer to kids and grand kids. As we might say back in New England-- we will be "wicked busy" getting ready to move out of where we have lived for the past 31 years and into our new abode.....
I hope everyone has a great experience rehashing fond memories of past Wyanoke experiences. _________________ 1951: C-9. F. Whitemore, P. Durkee.

Although we will not be attending this years reunion in Cornwall the Culleton Family (Jim, Larry and Dick) would like to send their best wishes to all and hope that a Good Time Will Be Had By All! The Chicken BBQ sounds like a great replacement for the pig roast. Although the pig roast two years ago was a big hit and delicious, it's a lot of work!
If there will be a Candy Line please save us some Sugar Babies, and anything chocolate . . . . . . . . but no Necco Wafers please !
Have Fun!
Respectfully Submitted,

Well, Sherry and I are home, slept in our own bed, and have spent time discussing the Reunion.
It seems relatively 'weak' to say Thank you to Pat and Vicki for opening their home and hosting the Reunion, but those are the two clearest words that come to mind. The planning and preparation for the Reunion must have consumed a lot of time, and the results were just wonderful. Pat, Vicki, and Mike deserve a huge round of applause, as does Cavi for her added assistance. I hesitate to use names because I always leave out someone, or someones, and I don't mean to, certainly. So, collectively, to all who helped with any phase of the Reunion: Thank you.
I do have to mention David Ayers for his role as campfire MC - great job! Your telling of the "Golden Arm" was great, and I am sure all us listening had "mind-pictures" of sitting at the final camp fire waiting for the punch line.
To think that Camp closed 40 summers ago, and to realize that some of us hadn't seen each other during those 40 years, and, yet, picked up conversations from those days as if they were yesterday, I think is a tribute to the friendships made over time. We are a lucky bunch of people.
Personally, I am humbled by the number of comments made concerning the impact my father, and grandfather, had on people's lives both during their Camp time and their time following Camp. I, too, was impacted by my father, but, differently from others, I was impacted 24/7/365, and, didn't always appreciate what was happening to me. Over time I have come to realize the value of his influence, and, much of this realization has come by way of comments made by others (like you folks), and for this I am grateful and humbled.
Sherry and I are looking forward to the 2017 Reunion. See you then.
