There is a photo with a question regarding the ownership of the classic automobiles. They belonged to Stan Moody's parents. Stan was a counselor with two tours of duty at Wyanoke and one weekend in the late sixties or early seventies, Stan's parents drove the cars, there were two, to the camp for a visit. Stan was the counselor of S-6 around 1970. |

Hey, Jim, welcome! Great to hear from you. Hope you are well.
I didn't know at first what question your answer was referring to, but I went searching and found it. Jerrey Hoyt has three sets of photos posted in the older Photo Galleries, and Mike captioned one of the photos asking if anybody remembers whose car this is:

And now that you mention it, Jim, I recall that you're absolutely right. Stan Moody's parents did collect old cars and drove them to camp at least once. You, Jerrey, and Stan were all at Wyanoke in 1966 and 1967:

so that photo was taken one of those two years. Russ Hatch is the counselor on the left. The boy on somebody's shoulders at the top of the frame listening to Russ appears to be Peter Friedrichs, though I'm not positive. Peter was first at camp as a Midget in 1967.
Jerrey has some great photos in his collection, capturing some things I'd forgotten about:

Here are some rarely-seen-photo favorites of mine in Jerrey's collection:
A camper representative meeting with BMB:

What a great photo that one is!
In the mid-60s, Juniors used a Pinewood-Derby-style track behind J-1:

A photo taken behind J-2 during a Thursday evening cookout, which includes a rare photographic shot of the lower side of the Upper Junior Pines in the background:

Here's a rare one with the Lower Junior Pines in the background, and I should remember but forget the name of the young man sitting in the foreground. Could it be Greg Anderson, who was in Jerrey's tent in 1967?

Looking up the path towards Junior Camp about two-thirds of the way up from the waterfront, between the back of the dining hall/kitchen boy tents (up a steep hill to the right of the camera) and the cesspool (off to the camera's left). Anybody who spent time in the Junior Camp remembers this path, but hardly anybody other than Jerrey thought to photograph it from this particular angle:

There seem to be few surviving photos of any of The Pines or cesspool from any angle. Go figure! _________________ Camper: J-8 1965 (Kevin Ryan), J-8 1966 (Mike Freeland), S-6 1967 (Russ Hatch), S-3 1968 (Jeremy Cripps), and JA-2 1969 (Dan Mannis).
JC: J-2 1970 (Bill Bettison) and J-3 1971 (Gene Comella). Councilor 1972, J-5 1973, and JA-1 1974 & 1975 |
