One of the benefits of being retired is that you have 'time on your hands'; however, one of the difficulties of being retired is that you have 'time on your hands. I have spent time thumbing through old Log books and picked out a few passages I thought you might enjoy, or at least find interesting.

Selected extractions from Camp Logs:

“At 4:50 all boys and men rushed to the Chapel to see Don Q Son of Zoro. This was the longest picture we had for some time – eleven reels all told….” Taken from Log of Tuesday, July 28, 1931, Norman E. Risser, M-4

Personal comment: And we thought Joe Brawley and the Red Sox highlights went on forever!

“Motto for the Day: Don’t waste to (sic) many stamps on the Winnemont girls. You might not see them again.” Taken from Log of Sunday, August 14, 1932, John J. Byrd, Jr

Personal comment: Where was this guy with this advice when I needed him?

“Thought for the Day: Life is a comedy to those who think And a tragedy to those who feel.” Taken from Log of Wednesday, August 14, 1968, Daniel B Mannis, JA-2

Personal comment: Let me think about this and see how I feel.

“Thought for the day: Music is an essential ingredient to a happy Camp life.” Taken from Log of Saturday, July 12, 1969, Charlie Thomas, J-9

Personal comment: For someone who came to Camp with limited camping experience, he certainly caught on to a major element of camping in a hurry.

“As I write this log I look up into the night sky, but I see no moon. I sit and think how the relevance of this day is as of this time quite uncomprehandable. Also the absence of the moon makes the lunar expedition even more incredible.
T. F. T. D. Let us pray for the courageous crew in their epic adventure.” Taken from Log of Wednesday, July 16, 1969, Alan Ingraham, S-3

Personal comment: What appropriate words, what a tribute.

“Thought for the day: Whether a pitcher is half full or half empty is really six and a half dozen of one and the other.” Taken from Log of Sunday, July 27, 1969, Michael H Freeland, J-8.

Personal comment: This is a direct, word for word, transcription – help us out, Mike !!

Great quotes Dave! Really enjoyed them. I always thought Mike subscribed to the "baker's dozen" philosophy of "is really six and a half dozen of one and the other +1! Must have been Mrs. Moran's influence Laughing. Just kidding Mike! "and the other" must have been the 13th? Or is it the 7th?? Laughing

Seems clear to me.

I take my inspiration from Bob Schmitt: "Itell you what. I feel a whole lot more like I do now than I did when I got here."

His eloquence kept trouble at bay when he sensed that his campers were up to no good: "You do and I find out, I don't know, that's all I care."

Such profundity.

Keep 'em coming Dave. Great stuff
