As I said in the announcement on the home page, I'm getting a lot of spam registrations, mostly from automated crawlers promoting online casinos, porn and drugs, the last of which may not be that bad an idea as we all get older, but I'd rather leave it to you to find your own sources.
Some of you have registered with anonymous user names, in which case, you got an email from me asking if you're legit. I hate to do that, because I haven't figured out a way to word it so it doesn't sound so unfriendly. That's about the last attitude I want to convey here.
You're welcome to register with any user name you like, though it seems that your real name or nickname would allow you to reconnect with old friends more easily than an anonymous one. If you choose to remain anonymous, I'll respect that, but I want to know who you are, or at least that you are genuinely associated with Wyanoke or have a historical (or any peripheral) interest in it, certainly other than promoting a commercial web site.
So, to new registrants, please send me a personal message or email letting me know who you are, or drop a hint in your profile as to your interest in the Wyanoke community. I'll keep deleting the spammers, but I'm asking you to make it a bit easier to recognize them.
In the mean time, I'll look into some sort of security measure. Any ideas, anyone? Tom? It really bugs me that you can't escape this crap.
Thanks.
