Today is the 34th annual Granite Man Triathlon (swim, bike, run) with all the major activity happening at the Carry Beach. The swimmers start from the beach and swim around a buoy and back for a total of 3/4 mile, then transition to bike gear and pedal up Forest road (approx .9 miles and almost all uphill) to North Main street, turn left, and follow a route taking them up and down some rough terrain, and back to Carry Beach to transition to running gear, then up the big hill, past Camp, and out to the airport making a loop around what was the runway area, then back to Camp and turning right into a development, eventually returning to Forest Rd for the final dash to the finish line at the Carry Beach. Personally, I am exhausted just explaining it!! This race draws about 350 participants from all over the New England states, and more. Couple this activity with a three-day craft fair at Brewster Field, and fantastic weather, and you can imagine the crowds milling around Town.

The results of last year's race are posted on the internet at www.coolrunning.com , and just roam around a little looking for 33rd Granite Man Triathlon - Wolfeboro.

Although we at Camp never did anything quite as large as this, this event does bring back a lot of memories of swimming and running (not too much biking) in the very area of this Race today, only we did it 50-plus years ago!

I am thinking about a more relevant triathlon: pill taking, nap taking, and eating soft food. (Oh, totally off the subject: Mike and Pat - the rolls you had at the Reunion were spectacular, Mrs. Morin would be PROUD, if not a little jealous.)

I hope everyone is having a safe and sound, and fun, summer experience.

We had some athletes, campers and staff, who definitely could have competed successfully in the Granite Man. I wonder if they'd have been permitted to do it back in the day if Granite Man had been run then.

We had a neighbor who, in her mid-40s, competed a few years back in an Iron Man event. That's a whole 'nother level of insane abuse of one's body, consisting of a 2.4 mile swim, followed immediately by a 112 mi. bike race, followed immediately by a full 26.2 mile marathon, and you have to finish each event within a prescribed time and the whole shebang within 17 hours. Paging Dr. Danger/Bob Arnot, who's probably done at least one if not several of these himself LOL. Our neighbor successfully did it, came home, slept for two or three days and didn't move too well even after that.

This is about the time of the summer that nighttime temps in Wolfeboro normally start dropping noticeably (though not this year so far, I see). I've been thinking about camp this week in connection with the Perseid meteor shower. We'd lie out on the ballfield or an OD table and watch the show. We're back there with you in spirit, Bob Fox!
