Throughout my entire time at Wyanoke, including those as a camper and those as a staffer, I have no real memory of politics ever being a player in any phase of Camp life, except, of course, some relatively mild discussions in the evenings which started "no where and went no where".

We had "blues" and "grays", we had baseball teams named for prep schools and colleges, we had living unit designators (J-8 comes to mind), we had "land sports guys" and we had "water sports guys", we had "tall guys", we had guys who wore glasses, and any other of a host of differences, but I don't ever remember if had "republicans", "democrats" or any other category of political belief.

Sure, we were young, somewhat naive (except for the Dick Irons-type men among us), and, the world was less complicated (I think) during those days. So, what is the point of all this. I guess my question is simple: "Is anyone else fed up with the actions of our legislators and the way they conduct themselves both professionally and personally?"

I don't want to open up a battle front pitting ideologies against each other, and I am the first to admit that in the intellectual arena of politics and philosophy I am so far to the edge that my presence is barely noticeable; but, what with all that is happening in Washington, and the fact that I am having a birthday every year just like the rest of you, I am concerned for myself (a little), my children and my grandchildren (a lot).

Life was certainly much easier when all I had to worry about was doing the big area police for Sunday inspections.

David, the lack of Courage and Loyalty when it comes to the interests of the American people (as opposed to the interests of campaign donors and political parties) and the bitter tone of the debate among legislators and commentators concern me greatly. Students of American history will say that there have been other periods in American history where the legislatures (federal and states) were as paralyzed as this one by partisanship and dishonesty, but not in our lifetimes.
