The Forum has been pretty quiet lately, so maybe I can start a threat that will generate some interest.
At Wyanoke, the "Log for the Day" always concluded with a "Thought for the Day." As I recall, some were pretty lame, but many were really meaningful. I wish I could remember some of them. It might be interesting if the old logs were available in an archive so that the best ones could be captured and posted.
Sooooooooooo: I'll take the theme of "Log of the Day" and give three of my favorite "thoughts." So far as I know, none of these were ever in a Wyanoke Log, but are thoughts that I have had for many decades.
1. Does Thou Love Life? Then do not waste time, because Time is the stuff life is made of.
2. It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and erase al doubt.
3. Beside the art of getting things done, there is also the art of leaving things undone. One of the great wisdoms of life consists in the elimination of non-essentials.
Maybe some of your other campers and councillors have some thoughts to share with this Forum.
Cheers to all. _________________ 1951: C-9. F. Whitemore, P. Durkee.

A few I've always liked:
“To be is to do”—Socrates.
“To do is to be”—Jean-Paul Sartre.
“Do be do be do”—Frank Sinatra.
(Accuracy of citations not guaranteed.)

I am posting two TFTD's, both by the same person, and the challenge is to guess who used these at Camp:
(1) "Procrastination is the art of keeping up with yesterday", and,
(2) "Luck is the residue of design", - Branch Rickey
Both of these are over 40 years old.
(Personally, I have days when remembering what I had for lunch is a challenge!!) _________________ C-1 49 J-7 52 S-3 55 J-10 58

Okay, small hint. The author of #1 is unknown, but may have been the staff member who used it as a TFTD, or maybe not; and the author of #2 is Branch Rickey, and in the use of it as a TFTD attribution was made to Mr. Rickey by the staff member who used it. Both of these were used by the same staff member. I hope I didn't muddy the water with this attempt to clarify the setting.
Now, the small hint: This individual is well known to many of us, particularly for his lofty ideals.
Happy thinking. _________________ C-1 49 J-7 52 S-3 55 J-10 58

Could it have been either Richard (Dick) Irons or E. Slocum? Just a shot in the dark!! _________________ '56 - J-9 J. Moulton

Ooo I bet you're close Jim. I'm stuck on "lofty ideals." Play on words, I'll wager. _________________ '56-C-9 C. Mosher '57-C-9 Bill Feaster

Sorry, Jim, a shot in the dark just didn't do it (my friend), but, at least you eliminated two at once (only several hundred, or more, to go)!
Mike, on the other hand, is sniffing around in the right, generally, direction. _________________ C-1 49 J-7 52 S-3 55 J-10 58

Gotta be Walt Sheirer? Has to be!! If not . . . . . . . Norm Risser?
I'm thinking perhaps your Dad, David? Had to be someone who liked baseball to some degree . . . . . . . . . .
Respectfully Submitted,

Not Walt, not Norm, not my Dad; but, that is quite precise thinking and could lead you to a favorable answer. _________________ C-1 49 J-7 52 S-3 55 J-10 58

Lofty Ideas !!!
Hmmmmmmm.... Name a councillor whose head was "in the clouds."
I need more clues. What was/were the approximate years that this lofty soul was at Wyanoke? Or if this is to much of a clue, how about at least telling us which decade. _________________ 1951: C-9. F. Whitemore, P. Durkee.

Ray "God" McConn? That goes back to '58 - '60 so that's unlikely - too few of us would remember him.
With lofty ideals firmly stuck in my head, I'm thinking of someone who might have spent a notable amount of time in the "pulpit" in Chapel services (sure as hell wasn't me).
Tom Niblock?
Great stumper, Dave. Maybe we should keep this kind of thing up, and us on our toes.
Any thoughts from Dr. Ayars? _________________ '56-C-9 C. Mosher '57-C-9 Bill Feaster
